Chris Nelson believes Yellow Brick is a live place chance in the Stradbroke Handicap on the basis that he gains a start.
The Tony & Maddyson Sears trained galloper returned to his winning ways at Eagle Farm last weekend and looks a perfect Stradbroke horse down in the weights.
Yellow Brick staked his case courtesy of a brilliant James McDonald ride and Nelson believes a similar steer in a Stradbroke would see him be a good showing at the current $21 quote.
He’s currently the second emergency to gain a start in the 1400m Group 1 but should he run on the weekend, Nelson says you could chime in at the big price.
“I think the interesting factor here post-race was James McDonald giving him a massive wrap,” Nelson told SENTrack.
“He just said he wanted to get him away from the inside and get into the clear but he didn’t expect him to take off as quickly as he did and show that turn of foot.
“McDonald did say that half way down the straight that he was thinking, ‘oh god, I’ve done the wrong thing here’, and I’ve gone too early but the horse was able to hold on.
“He might be going a little bit better than we all think and he might be underestimated Yellow Brick and he’s going to drop massively in the weights as he carried 59kgs on Saturday.
“If he’s got 51kgs in a Stradbroke, you’d want to ride him similarly and just go for it and let the to others run him down.
“He’s probably a place chance.”
Leading form analyst Mick Gannon disagrees with Chris Nelson with Gannon questioning the strength of Yellow Brick’s form lines in a Group 1 race like the Stradbroke.
“I don’t think he can be competitive in a Stradbroke off that run,” Gannon added.
“It was a nice win but I think if you swap runs Wategoes beats Yellow Brick.
“I don’t think it’s the right form but it was a great ride from James McDonald, the ride won the race.”
Antino is the current $6.50 favourite in the 1400m affair for local trainer Tony Gollan with star sprinter Bella Nipotina the next on line of the betting at $7.
