COLUMBIA — A’ja Wilson, South Carolina’s former star center, will be on the 2024 U.S. women’s basketball team for the summer Olympics in Paris, just nine months after her coach Dawn Staley played the 2023 season opener in the same city.

Wilson is one of 12 players selected for this year’s Olympic team and is the only Gamecocks alum. The 12-person roster was leaked on X, formerly known as Twitter on Saturday by The Athletic, and was officially announced Tuesday.

This will be the second Olympics for Wilson, as she made her debut with the 2021 team that won gold in Tokyo.

In 2021, Staley won her first gold medal as Team USA’s coach. As a player, she won Olympic gold in 1996, 2000 and 2004. Staley is not a coach for the 2024 Olympics.
