“Jack Steven was driving alone, just near here which is a few minutes from home, near 5 o’clock yesterday afternoon when he lost control of his Ford ute and slammed into an embankment,” Seven’s Paul Dowsley said.
“Police have told Seven News the 34-year-old then fled the scene and ran to a house nearby, which is believed to be the home he shares with his parents, and that is where officers found him.
“They are now set to charge him with refusing a preliminary oral fluid test and other traffic offences. That fluid test is to detect cannabis, methamphetamine and ecstasy.”
Steven’s father Peter told Seven News: “He’s avoided a kangaroo. He’s just had an accident.
“We’re very lucky that he’s alive. It’s a very dangerous road. He was treated by the ambulance.”
However Ambulance Victoria told Seven News they attended but no treatment was needed.
Steven finished his career with one season at Geelong, which was marred by a bizarre stabbing incident.
