Sisituutuumata Fulivai, 44, faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday on charges of rape, unlawful confinement and assault.

Police allege that officers on a routine patrol came across the woman running along a street in Lyneham about 7pm.

They said they stopped and took the woman into their vehicle, at which point she alleged she had been confined to a nearby residence for days.

She also alleged she had been sexually assaulted by a man during that time, and had sustained numerous injuries.

A short time later, police arrested Mr Fulivai and charged him with forcible confinement, sexual intercourse without consent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and fail to appear.

Mr Fulivai appeared in court with a towel wrapped around his waist.

He did not apply for bail, and was remanded in custody.

The case will return to court next month.
