BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Southeastern and Atlantic Coast Conferences announced the dates and matchups for the 2024 SEC-ACC Challenge on Wednesday. Texas will travel to face NC State on Wednesday, Dec. 4 in Raleigh, N.C.
Game times and television networks will be announced when available. Due to television considerations, 10 of the 16 games in this season’s Challenge will be played on Tuesday, Dec. 3 and the other six games will be played on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
This marks the second season of the SEC-ACC Challenge. The men’s Challenge games are scheduled to take place on the first Tuesday and Wednesday after Thanksgiving through at least the 2027-28 season.
Texas and NC State will meet for the fifth time and first since the 2011-12 season. The all-time series between the Longhorns and the Wolfpack is tied at 2-2, and all four previous matchups have been at neutral sites.
In the first meeting between the two schools (March 21, 1978), Texas claimed a 101-93 victory in the 1978 NIT Championship Game at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The Wolfpack then earned a 69-68 win in the opening round of the 1986 Great Alaska Shootout (Nov. 28, 1986) in Anchorage, Alaska. The Longhorns posted a 75-54 victory in a 2006 NCAA Tournament Round of 32 matchup (March 19, 2006) in Dallas, Texas. In the most recent matchup (Nov. 21, 2011), NC State claimed a 77-74 win in the third-place game at the Ticket City Legends Classic in East Rutherford, N.J.
Texas completed the 2023-24 season with a 21-13 overall record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Round of 32. With their victory over Colorado State in the NCAA Round of 64, the Longhorns won their NCAA First Round game for the third consecutive season. This marked the first time Texas has accomplished the feat since UT won four-straight NCAA First-Round games from 2006-09.
The Longhorns are one of just eight programs in Division I men’s basketball to advance to at least the NCAA Tournament Round of 32 in each of the last three seasons, joining Baylor, Creighton, Gonzaga, Houston, Kansas, Michigan State and Tennessee.
