Jonte:
“I think AI could be a powerful tool for employees and employers to use. At the beginning of it, because we don’t know the long-term effects, but it is definitely worth researching. I’ve seen a couple of podcasts, Joe Rogan for example, where they had some interesting things to say about the future effects of AI in a negative way. However, one can see it as a powerful tool, whether it has positive or negative effects. Sometimes I use it, and the more everyone uses it, the more developers are improving it; it can be powerful. We should all keep our eyes on it, research it, and we will see what the effects will be.”
Heaven:
“I think it has a negative impact because it will take away jobs as the world advances more. People use it as the ‘easy way out.’ You could have a 500-page book that you have not read, and all because we have access to AI now, in seconds you can have a full book report on a book you never read. I feel like that just isn’t right because people are not actually learning and retaining information if they know that AI is something that will always be there.”
Michael:
“AI is not personal, period. It will absolutely affect jobs and employment, but I think it will affect them positively. Sooner or later, there is only so much AI can do, and its functions will become repetitive. However, it can be a positive experience if we use it responsibly.”
Mack:
“When it comes to AI, I would say the hospitality industry, restaurants, and the food industry, I think it’s a bit shady; it’s a grey area because it could take people’s jobs. However, in technology, using it for medicine, assisting other technology, even movies, I can see it being a positive thing. So, I am on a scale. I don’t want to see AI taking jobs, particularly for Black folks, but it can be useful. I just enjoy engaging with that human effect.”
Kaga:
“I feel that it has both a negative and positive impact. It’s positive in the way that it can be utilized in schools for studying and makes the internet faster when researching questions you may have. However, it is also negative because, sooner or later, it is going to take over a lot of tech jobs, and maybe even writing jobs.”
Anthony:
“I could argue them both ways. I think technology is, for the most part, always good. There are pros and cons to both sides. On one hand, I could see AI taking away a lot of jobs that are needed, especially for individuals who are low-educated, working-class, and at the same time, I could see AI taking us to heights in terms of developing technology that the average person would not be able to do. So, I kind of have mixed emotions about it.”
