Must read

It’s time to tee it up at Pinehurst No. 2 for the 124th U.S. Open. Solid recent play course fit golf stats will assist with your player performance projections. But the toughest test and golf’s most demanding challenge will require more patience, premium putting and around the green play to make pars and minimize mistakes.

The incredible set of turtleback greens will cause more turmoil on approach as players pick their spots before potential putting problems. But not for leading contender Jon Rahm, who withdrew from the U.S. Open Tuesday with a foot infection.

Five different American players have won the last five majors – the first time that has happened since 1983-84.

Player Press Conference Comments

Scheffler: “I think the areas around the green are extremely difficult to play out of, and the grainy Bermuda makes it more difficult and limits options and creativity if you have an into-the-grain lie.”

McIlroy: Focus on “being patient and embracing the difficult conditions, the style of golf needed to contend at a U.S. Open. At Pinehurst and most Donald Ross courses, it’s on and around the greens.”

Schauffele: “I’ve never swing so hard on my putter for nine holes than I did today (practice round), just trying to get up and down mounds.”
