Texas Women’s Basketball is preparing for its first season in the Southeastern Conference. They will face teams like the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Tennesee State Volunteers. However, there was one game that fans should want to mark down on their calendars.
It was announced that the Longhorns will take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in their first SEC/ACC Challenge game. Here’s more about the SEC/ACC Challenge and a background on the Fighting Irish.
The SEC/ACC Challenge is a contest between the two conferences. Whichever conference earns the most wins between each other will receive a trophy. It will take place on December 4th and 5th. There are some big-time matchups scheduled for those two days. One of those must-watch matchups is Duke vs. South Carolina. You can check out the remainder of the matchups here.
The Fighting Irish is led by their top-scorer Sophomore guard Hannah Hidalgo. She was the Fighting Irish’s top scorer last season, averaging 22 points a game. Hidalgo also leads the Fighting Irish in steals and assists.
Watching Hidalgo and Senior guard Rori Harmon play against each other will be must-watch TV in December. Senior forward Taylor Jones will have to defend Senior forward Maddy Westbeld. She averages 14 points and nine rebounds a game.
It will be an exciting matchup for the Longhorns before they begin SEC play against some of the best women’s college basketball programs. I know Longhorns fans will have both South Carolina Gamecocks matchups on their calendar.
It will be interesting to see how Vic Schaefer’s defense will hold up against one of the best coaches in the business today, Dawn Staley. The LSU home game is also circled on my calendar. It will be an entertaining season as the Longhorns look to win the SEC Women’s Basketball title in their first year in the conference.
