Carlos Alcaraz Sucks the Joy Out of Jannik Sinner’s No.1 Honor as He Fails to Digest French Open Defeat

“You win some, you lose some, it’s all the part of the game.” However, Jannik Sinner is finding it difficult to move on from his loss at the semifinal in the French Open, despite being crowned as the new World No.1. In the 5-set thriller against the now French Open champion, Carlos Alcaraz, the scales tipped in every set, even the decider. But the Spaniard came out on top with a score of 2-6,6-3,3-6,6-4,6-3.  It certainly was a hard loss for the Italian, as instead of celebrating the feat, he is trying to recover from defeat!

In an interview with Corriere Della Sera, Jannik Sinner was questioned about his climb to the top of the ATP ranking. And contrary to what everyone would have anticipated, Sinner relived his semi-final loss as he watched the World No.2 lift the Musketeer’s Trophy. The journalist questioned him, “Did Sinner realize he was number one in the world? Did he make it?” Answering in affirmative about his new rank, Sinner refused to dwell any further. He said, “Yes, certainly.” That was it, nothing more about achieving this.

Furthermore, he explained his current state where he still thinks about his loss in Paris. He added, “But more than the world number one I’m still thinking about the match with Alcaraz in the semi-final in Paris.” It was a good match for the viewers, but not for the World No.1, as while watching the final between Alcaraz and Zverev, he was hoping to be there on the clay court playing, instead of the former.  He heartbreakingly added, “On Sunday I saw a bit of the final, and I struggled a bit because I would have liked to have been there more anyway.”

Alacarz and Sinner’s rivalry has already made its way to the hearts of the fans. The duo have clashed 9 times with the Spaniard leading the record 5-4. Although, the climb in ranking did little to lift the spirits of the World No.1. But it is a good distraction as he tries to move on from the French Open.

The transformation is life in tennis with the younger generation pushing the yesteryear legends to the side, with their new rankings. However, the paradoxical results at the recently concluded French Open Grand Slam are still pricking Sinner’s heart as he is still digesting the result. However, the Italian has now started to enjoy his trophy, though not fully! 

Wishing to be at the clay court final, he, further added,” I’m still digesting, now I’m interested in this. I like the number one trophy. But unfortunately on Sunday I wasn’t able to be in the place where I wanted to be. Paris”. The Paris loss has hit the World No.1 hard, as he tries to move on.

Undoubtedly the Italian would come out of this loss, stronger than ever as the calendar year proceeds to the new destination, the Wimbledon Open; however, not before making another stop at Roland Garros for the Paris Olympics. The new top player could fight it out in a rematch in July!
