It looks like your run-of-the-mill suburban home. Then police found a woman ‘naked and screaming in the street’. Now she’s breaking her silence – as cops charge entrepreneur with ‘keeping her prisoner for four days’

A young woman who claims she was locked inside a Canberra house for four days and raped has told police she only managed to escape because she fought off her alleged captor and ran.

The woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was found by a police patrol car at 7pm on Monday after police allegedly saw her running, naked and screaming, from the suburban home on Fairweather Circuit in Lyneham.

She told officers she had allegedly been held in the house for four days and was repeatedly sexually assaulted.

Later that evening, police arrested Sisituutuumata Fulivai, 44, and charged him with forcible confinement, sexual intercourse without consent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Daily Mail Australia can now reveal the woman allegedly at the centre of the ordeal returned to the house with a friend on Wednesday to find the police tape was down and it was no longer an active crime scene.

The woman alleged that she ‘had to get out’.

‘I had to… then I ran,’ she said.

Fulivai did not own the property, but appeared to have access to the home while his relative who normally lived there was away.

The case against Fulivai is yet to be tested in court.  

The house was strewn with debris on Wednesday, with rubbish and bags of day-old barbecue chicken by the front door.

Neighbours described the area as ‘tight-knit’ and ‘community-focused’, and were horrified by the alleged assault.

Sharon, whose elderly mother lives next door to the alleged crime scene, said she had visited the street multiple times within the last week and didn’t hear anything.

‘I come here to look after my mother and there was no sign at all that anything was going on next door,’ she said.

‘(The allegations) have shaken everyone because it’s normally such a nice community.’

Social media posts show Fulivai is a car and rugby enthusiast who used to run a custom printing company.

Records indicate the printing company folded in 2022.

Fulivai appeared in the ACT Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, dressed with a brown towel around his waist and grey tracksuit pants tucked into white socks, and with no shoes.

Prosecutors said the charges were not domestic violence-related.

He did not apply for bail and will be on remand until his matter returns to court in July.
