Jaipur: The mining sector in Rajasthan is expected to witness significant growth by 2047, with projections indicating a tripling of mining lease areas to over 7,000 sq km, providing employment to more than 10 million people directly and indirectly, and increasing govt revenue threefold to Rs 25,000 crore. These prospects were discussed during a meeting chaired by mines director Bhagwati Prasad Kalal at Udyog Bhawan, where senior officials, mining association representatives, and stakeholders participated in the discussion for the vision document “Developed Rajasthan 2047.”Kalal emphasised the importance of adopting zero-loss mining techniques, developing mineral-based clusters, and incorporating the latest technologies. He also mentioned that private participation in mineral exploration will be determined, and efforts will be made to minimise mineral imports. The mining sector currently provides direct employment to 7-8 lakh people and indirect employment to 25 -28 lakh people in the state, with immense opportunities for growth. In his keynote address, Akshaydeep Mathur, secretary general Federation of Mining Associations of Rajasthan (FMAR), drew attention to several issues like the need to transfer land ownership to the mines department, indicate mining areas on revenue maps, promote modern technology, decentralise authority, and simplify various clearance processes. He also made a case for creating MSME mines in manufacturing and service sector to facilitate the growth.Mathur said that the ownership of land under mining leases and mineral-bearing areas should vest with the mines department, and mining land should be entered in revenue records as a separate category. The federation also suggested that existing surface rights of any other department over mineral-bearing land in Rajasthan should be de-notified, extinguished, and the land transferred to the Mines Department, with a highly mineralized zone of about 1500 sqkms within the forest land earmarked as a Specific Mining Zone. The Federation recommended accurate digitisation of all mining leases and quarry licenses for surveillance and monitoring by a central control room in Jaipur.
