Popular wedding venue closes its doors with a day’s notice

Must read

More than a dozen WA brides have been left without a wedding venue and out of pocket after a popular Margaret River wedding venue went into administration, owing more than $1 million.

Black Brewing Co, in the Margaret River wine region three hours south of Perth, has been popular since opening its doors in 2016, but it gave customers just a day’s notice that it would be shutting its doors forever this weekend.

Kirsten and Hayden booked back in August and are due to get married in eight weeks.

They have already paid a $5000 deposit and just two weeks ago paid the venue more than $10,000.

The soon-to-be bride, who has family flying in from New Zealand, received an email Thursday night from Black Brewing Co saying it had gone into voluntary administration.

She told 7NEWS she feels “angry” and “like I’ve been robbed”.

Kirsten said she had been on the phone to the administrators but had not received good news.

“It looks like we’re not going to get much back,” she said.

At least 15 other couples have been impacted.

In a statement posted to social media on Friday, Black Brewing Co says it was closing at the end of Saturday “due to unforeseen circumstances”.

“We would like to thank you all for being a part of our time in this beautiful region and to praise your loyalty to us as a local brewery, distillery and restaurant,” the company said.

“It’s been an eight-year journey full of action and some awesome staff that we would also like to thank for being a part of our story.”
