Former Arsenal and Everton star Kevin Campbell has died at 54.
The forward, who began his career with the Gunners, became ill in late May, with Everton revealing he was “very unwell” in early June.
On Instagram, Arsenal said in a statement: “We are devastated to learn that our former striker Kevin Campbell has died after a short illness.
“Kevin was adored by everyone at the club. All of us are thinking of his friends and family at this difficult time. Rest in peace, Kevin.”
Campbell came through Arsenal’s Hale End academy, making his debut in 1988.
Indeed, after loan stints with Leyton Orient and Leicester City, Campbell helped fire Arsenal’s to the league title in 1990–91.
He also played a role in the Gunners winning the FA Cup and League Cup double in 1993, as well as the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1994.
Following spells with Nottingham Forest and Turkish outfit Trabzonspor, Campbell joined Everton on loan in March 1999.
He went on to net nine goals in their final eight Premier League games to help the Toffees avoid relegation.
His move to Everton was subsequently made permanent, with the player spending more than five seasons on Merseyside.

Campbell ended his career with spells at West Bromwich Albion and Cardiff City.
He netted some 148 goals from 542 career appearances, before retiring and working as a media pundit.
Tributes have poured in for the Arsenal and Everton icon.
Mark Crossley said on X, formally Twitter: “Life can be so cruel at times Absolutely devastated with news of my ex forest team mate Kevin Campbell’s passing, a true gentleman, a great player, a shining light of a dressing room, fun loving guy, thoughts are with all his family and friends. RIP mate.”
Meanwhile, Ian Wright shared several cry-face emojis as well as a collection of pictures with his former Arsenal team-mate.
