A kaleidoscope of blues and greens is all I can see as I take in the scattering of islands surrounded by vast ocean. Our dinghy skips over waves, coating us in a thin layer of water, salt . . . and fear. Hands grasp the sun-warmed tin boat. Two pairs of feet are packed in next to each other. Salty specks land on my tongue. It tastes . . . like Fiji.
A 5½-hour boat journey on the Yasawa Flyer transports travellers from Port Denarau on the main island to their magical faraway paradise. The boat travels to 12 Yasawa Islands, and Nanuya Lailai greets us 92km later. It is the last island accessible to tourists and the boat’s turning point as it travels back down the island chain to the main island.
