‘Nervousness’: Former royal butler shares insight into Kate’s emotions for big return

A former royal butler has claimed there was bound to be an “element of nervousness” felt by Princess Catherine and the entire royal family as the mother-of-three made her big return to the public eye on the weekend amid her cancer battle.

The Princess of Wales stole the spotlight at King Charles’ official birthday celebration in London, making it her first public appearance in 2024 amid her bout with cancer.

Although it was a day to honour King Charles, many eyes were on the Princess as she appeared in a carriage, making her first appearance in six months.

In a statement released by the Princess, she says she is making good progress, but her course of treatment will continue for a few more months.

Princess Catherine stepped out for Trooping the Colour on Saturday in honour of King Charles’ birthday in her first public appearance since being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.

The Princess of Wales was all smiles as she greeted a crowd of thousands alongside her three children and husband Prince William on the balcony of Buckingham Palace after the parade.

Although the 42-year-old appeared to be in high spirits, royal commentator Grant Harrold claimed there was likely an air of “nervousness” felt by Kate and the entire royal family.

“It’s certainly a big moment for her, and her family, and there’s bound to be an element of nervousness felt among them all, Kate especially,” Mr Harrold told UK’s The Mirror.

“I do think as pleased as she’ll be to be back out there, she’ll also be feeling cautious too.

“Hopefully, there won’t be any setbacks and it’s great to see her doing her first public outing.”

The former royal butler speculated it would have meant “a lot” to Kate being alongside her family at the event, noting the warm reception she received from the crowd.

“Kate will be happy to be back in the public eye,” Mr Harrold continued.

“She’s always taken her royal duties very seriously and she carries them out with such confidence too.

“I’m sure she’s been wanting to engage with the public and fulfil her duties, so the thought of getting back out there today, she’ll no doubt be pleased about.”

Kate stunned in a black and white outfit, paired with a wide-brim hat with her hair tied back in a neat bun as she made her return to the public eye for the King’s birthday parade.

She was seen with a wide grin on her face as she rode in a carriage with her children – Prince Louis, Prince George and Princess Charlotte – towards the Horse Guards Parade at Whitehall.

A sweet photo published on the Prince and Princess of Wales’ official Instagram account showed Kate and William smiling at each other as they stood on the Buckingham Palace balcony.

One day prior, Princess Catherine confirmed she would be attending Trooping the Colour as she issued a rare update about her health amid her cancer battle.

“I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days,” she said in a statement shared on X.

The Princess of Wales, who revealed in March she had been diagnosed with cancer, had not attended a public event since the Christmas Day service at Sandringham.

Kensington Palace has previously revealed the Princess would continue to step back from official royal engagements only as she feels well enough to do so.
