Doomben racing tips

Race 1. (12:00) Cascade Maiden (1660m)

#1 – Counter

Counter has been threatening to win a race after posting eight placings from 13 starts.

The four-year-old gelding by Lope de Vega comes off a fifth at Sunshine Coast fresh up, and that’s a good enough form guide.

Ryan Maloney rides, and punters should be confident of a tidy effort.

Race 2. (12:36) XXXX Maiden (1350m)

#6 – Strapperoo

Strapperoo is getting close to winning after consecutive third placings at Gatton and Doomben.

The three-year-old son of Xtravagant was no match for the winner last time out, but he’ll only improve with the run under his belt.

We’re happy with the each-way odds that will be available.

Race 3. (13:11) The Gibson Maiden (1200m)

#1 – Caspernova

Caspernova ran second either side of a spell, and it won’t take him much to improve that form.

The three-year-old son of Spirit of Boom ran second at Eagle Farm before placing at Sunshine Coast in heavy track conditions.

Barrier 11 makes it difficult, but he looks well-placed to break maidens.

Race 4. (13:46) Mullins Lawyers BM68 (1660m)

#2 – Drialle

The four-year-old son of Shalaa won consecutive wins earlier this preparation, which is a good form guide.

He won against slightly easier opposition, but he wasn’t far off winning when third at Doomben last time out.

We’re happy to include him in this race, which is tough, but the odds should appeal.

Race 5. (14:21) Sky Racing C6 (1110m)

#1 – Hold On Honey

Hold On Honey isn’t always the most consistent type going around, but he owns six wins and 10 placings from 22 starts.

The five-year-old son of Counterattack has yet to run worse than third from six starts at Doomben, which is a fantastic record.

Getting 3kg off his back adds to his appeal.

Race 6. (14:56) Become a BRC Member BM68 (1110m)

#15 – Hurts So Good

Hurts So Good scored an overdue win at Ipswich last time out, and he’s good enough to kick on with it.

The four-year-old son of So You Think won by 1.8 lengths in fine style, and getting Maloney in the saddle adds to his appeal.

Look for a betting push on race day.

Race 7. (15:31) Ladbrokes MD Race C1 (1200m)

#9 – Cattrall

Cattrall won well fresh up at Sale when breaking maidens, and it won’t take her long to win again.

The three-year-old filly by Into Mischief wasn’t far away when fourth last time out, and being from the Stuart Kendrick stable helps.

Punters should get value each-way odds on race day.

Race 8. (16:06) Bossy’s Bucket List C3 (1350m)

#5 – Acid Wash

Acid Wash turned his form around with a win at Sunshine Coast last start, which is a good form guide.

The three-year-old gelding by American Pharoah owns two wins and three placings from seven starts, and he won paying $1.30.

Punters should expect much better odds this time around.
