British chef Gordon Ramsay has revealed he suffered a near-fatal bike accident.
Sharing a video over the weekend, the 57-year-old’s hand was shaking as he explained he had a “really bad” cycling accident.
“It really shook me,” he said. “Honestly, I’m lucky to be here.”
He went on to thank the “incredible trauma surgeons, doctors, and nurses” who looked after him, before revealing the magenta-coloured bruise that covered the left side of his torso.
“I am in pain; it’s been a brutal week and I’m sort of getting through it,” the father-of-six said, imploring people to wear a helmet like he did.
“If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be here now.”
When did Gordon Ramsay have the bike accident?
The accident occurred a day before Father’s Day in the UK.
Gordon was cycling in the US state of Connecticut.
He was treated at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London.
Luckily, the chef didn’t break any bones or suffer any major injuries.
Gordon has not yet shared further details about how the crash unfolded.
Did Gordon Ramsay do an Ironman?
We may be used to the chef shouting over an open flame, but his fire isn’t reserved for the kitchen.
Indeed, the avid cycler has completed a few Ironman races in his time.
In 2013, Gordon finished one of the most challenging Ironman competitions in just over 14 hours.
A year prior, he completed the Ironman 70.3 Florida, and he regularly joins marathons in London, England.
How long will Gordon Ramsay’s recovery take?
While it is a good sign that Gordon Ramsay didn’t endure any major injuries from the bike accident, it is uncertain how long it will take for his bruised torso to heal.
In the video revealing the news, the Food Stars presenter also had shaking hands which may affect his cooking.
But, the fact he is already donning his chef uniform is a good sign he is on the road to recovery.
