The PCB has threatened to pursue legal action after footage emerged of Pakistan bowler Haris Rauf embroiled in a heated exchange with a group of men.

The video, which circulated social media channels on Tuesday, shows Rauf confronting some unidentified men neat the sidewalk while his wife and another man attempt to hold him back.

The 30-year-old, who represents the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League, released a statement to Twitter later on Tuesday, insinuating the incident was caused by an insult directed towards his family.

“I decided not to bring this on social media, but now that the video is out, I feel it is necessary to address the situation,” Rauf wrote.

“As public figures, we are open to receiving all kinds of feedback from the public. They are entitled to support or criticise us. Nevertheless, when it comes to my parent and my family, I will not hesitate to respond accordingly.

“It is important to show respect towards people and their families, irrespective of their professions.”

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi also released a statement on Twitter: “Strongly condemn the appalling incident involving Haris Rauf.

“Such actions against our players are completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

“Those who are involved must immediately apologise to Haris Rauf, failing which we will pursue legal action against the individual responsible.”

Pakistan was eliminated from the T20 World Cup after suffering defeats against Pakistan and the United States during the group stage, finishing third on the Group A standings.

Rauf was Pakistan’s equal leading wicket-taker in the tournament with seven scalps 14.42 and an economy rate of 6.73.
