Tokyo police took a 52-year-old woman into custody Tuesday over the alleged killing of her husband with a golf club.

The suspect, Miho Yoshitake, reportedly told police, “I hit him back because he struck me first with the golf club. I didn’t mean to kill him.”

She is accused of striking her husband, Makoto Yoshitake, 53, a company employee, in the head with the club, resulting in his death at their home in Nerima Ward on Monday evening.

At approximately 9:15 p.m. on Monday, the deceased’s parents discovered him bleeding from the head in the bathroom after the suspect contacted them.

They called emergency services and he was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to police, the suspect claimed she had only used the golf club after seizing it from her husband. She also had minor head injuries consistent with being struck.

Their son, who is in his 20s, told police that the couple had been arguing since Monday morning.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident further as the couple appears to have had a history of domestic violence.
