Despite the raging success of Sabrina Carpenter’s single Espresso, the singer’s most recent marketing strategy has hit a flat note.
In a collaboration with Blank Street coffee shop in London, Carpenter got behind the counter sporting a matching Fendi set to work a shift as a barista serving espressos.
However, some critics were left enraged, arguing it was out of touch to be “cosplaying a minimum wage worker”.
“Rich people cosplaying as minimum wage workers is the corniest s**t in the world,” one person wrote on X.
Another said: “So cute and wholesome when a celebrity cosplays a minimum wage worker as a publicity stunt then goes back to living a life of ultimate privilege.”
Carpenter was thrilled with the opportunity to promote her song and took to her Instagram stories to share the love with her fans.
“Was so beyond happy to see so many of you after so long, hope you liked your espresso’s I love you!!!!”
Blank Street was equally as happy to join forces with the singer and actress.
“She’s working late because she’s a baristaaaa,” the coffee shop posted to Instagram as they shared photos of the star posing on the counter.
“Thanks @sabrinacarpenter for popping by Charlotte St and serving up some me espressos.”
Some fans have stood by the 25-year-old, arguing the collaboration was fitting given the name of the pop star’s hit track.
“Can ppl stop saying she’s cosplaying as a minimum wage worker she’s in full beat handing out promotional coffees this IS her literal job,” one fan wrote.
The criticism comes as the second bout of backlash for the star after she released the music video for her latest track, Please Please Please.
The clip features her new boyfriend Barry Keoghan who plays Carpenter’s love interest and is begged not to “embarrass” her, but some fans think he already has.
Before the couple’s romance started stirring late last year, the Saltburn actor was dating dental nurse Alyson Sandro, with whom he welcomed their child in 2022.
Some fans aren’t happy Keoghan is gallivanting around the world with Carpenter while he has a young child in London.
One fan online said it was “cringe” and another called it “embarrassing” to be dating a man who is so dedicated to a new relationship while his son is still a toddler.
