A 31-year-old man has been charged with murder and attempted murder over a shooting incident in north Queensland last night.

Police will be speaking soon in Mackay

Detective Acting Superintendent Emma Novosel will be giving an update after a man was charged with murder and attempted murder following two shootings last night.
Police allege the man shot and killed a 34-year-old woman while she was sitting in her car outside a Robb Place residence in South Mackay at about 4:30pm on Wednesday.
The pair were not known to each other, but lived on the same street, police said.
Two teenagers, who were in the car at the time, fled the scene on foot and were not physically harmed.
Police further allege a nearby resident, a 66-year-old man, approached the man a short time later and was shot in the hand and sternum.
He remains at the the Mackay Base Hospital.
Police say no ongoing threat to public
The 31-year-old man left the scene before police arrived, prompting an emergency declaration to be issued under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA), locking down the cul-de-sac and surrounding streets.
Police later tracked a car being driven by the alleged shooter to a service station along the Bruce Highway near Hilton Street.
Armed police surrounded the service station, where he was arrested without incident.
The PSPA was revoked at approximately 10.30pm and police said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
