Svenska Spel will begin reporting its share of revenues from players with a “lower risk” of gambling problems.
Fellow Sweden-based operator group Kindred already reports on its Journey Towards Zero, reporting its share of revenues from harmful gambling.
Svenska Spel said it will begin offering the metric after a 2023 survey by the gaming regulator Spelinspektionen found that the “absolute majority” of the 75 per cent of Swedes who have gambled for money in some form in the past 12 months “have control” over the activity.
These “account for healthy revenues for the gambling companies,” it said.
“By reporting our share of healthy revenue and our work to counter gambling problems, we show that it is possible to run a gambling company in a sustainable way,” said Svenska Spel president and CEO Svenska Spel.
“It is an important step in the work to increase trust in the gaming industry in general.”
The operator’s methodology, it said, will be based on risk models in its Playscan analysis tool, which have been developed in collaboration with independent gambling responsibility advisors Sustainable Interaction.
It added: “A few other gambling companies with a license in Sweden today report, in different ways, the percentage of healthy or unhealthy income.
“For several years, Svenska Spel has worked for the gambling industry to agree on a common measurement method and definition of what constitutes a healthy income. However, the industry has not been able to agree on the issue.”
The company will report its Q2 share of healthy revenues at the end of August, from which point the metric will be included in its standard quarterly reports.
