Sustainable finishing technology Jeanologia received the title of Best Business Project during the inaugural edition of the Spanish Fashion Academy Awards on June 13.

Held at the Teatro Fernán Gómez in Madrid and hosted by model Nieves Álvarez, the gala celebrated Spanish talent within the country’s fashion sector, paying homage to the legacy of Cristóbal Balenciaga.

Jeanologia was recognized for its three decades of “revolutionizing” the textile industry with technologies that improve production efficiencies while lowering environmental impact. Reducing water consumption and energy use, and eliminating harmful chemicals from the finishing stage in denim manufacturing have been the impetus for most of the company’s innovations.

Chosen from over 400 contenders and endorsed by 129 votes, the award reflects Jeanologia’s influence on the industry.

Enrique Silla, founder and CEO of the Spanish firm, accepted the award on behalf of Jeanologia. “The way a product is made is part of its DNA and cannot be beautiful if it is made in a contaminating manner,” Silla said. “Jeanologia develops technologies that enable designers to create beauty while taking care of the planet. This will shape the future of fashion.”

The awards ceremony highlighted the finalists in each of the 10 categories, which included best collection, best collection of footwear, jewelry and accessories, new talent, best presentation, best business project, ambassador of Spanish fashion, promotion and dissemination of Spanish fashion, and sustainability, innovation and high craftsmanship applied to fashion. Winners included Leandro Cano, Carlota Barrera, Rabanne and Pedro del Hierro.
