Senior Channel Seven journalist Robert Ovadia says he has been sacked by the network after an internal investigation was launched into allegations of inappropriate behaviour.
In a statement, the Sydney-based crime reporter confirmed to the ABC he has been fired after 23 years with the network.
“I’ve been sacked and there will be more to say about that in the appropriate time,” he said.
The ABC understands Ovadia has sought legal advice from high-profile lawyer John Laxon over the matter.
It comes after a Channel Seven spokesperson announced earlier this month that Ovadia was on leave while the network was “conducting an investigation into allegations of inappropriate behaviour” by the veteran reporter.
Ovadia previously said any allegation he had behaved inappropriately at any time is false and will be defended.
Channel Seven has been contacted for comment.
