West Coast’s midfield bull will play out his career in blue and gold
West Coast midfield star Elliot Yeo is set to remain in blue and gold for the rest of his decorated career after signing a three-year contract extension.
The 2018 premiership Eagle has enjoyed a return to top form this year after enduring several frustrating injury-impacted seasons.
During the off-season, Yeo travelled to Qatar for a specialist medical review. That led to a new plan being implemented around his training, game preparation and management, which has increased his durability.
Yeo is averaging 23.1 disposals plus career-highs for contested possessions (13.4) and clearances (7.6) from 11 matches this season, showcasing the explosiveness and aggression that have been hallmarks of his robust playing style.
He is also averaging career-best numbers for groundball gets, score involvements, score launches and goal assists.
A back-to-back John Worsfold medallist in 2017 and ’18 and dual All-Australian (2017 and ’19), Yeo is set to push beyond 200 games for West Coast and end his career in blue and gold.
“It’s only fitting,” Yeo said. “I feel like I’m part of the walls here now and to be able to finish an Eagle, it’s a wonderful feeling.”
The 30-year-old has relished mentoring West Coast’s emerging midfielders Harley Reid, Campbell Chesser, Reuben Ginbey and Elijah Hewett, as the likes of Matt Priddis, Darren Glass and Dean Cox did for him early in his career.
“I’m looking forward to helping the younger generation coming through now and starting to build towards something that I can leave for them as well, a bit like the older players ‘Pridda’, ‘Glassy’ and ‘Coxy’ who I played with. They helped us all the way through,” Yeo said.
“Looking forward to getting stuck in with Harley, ‘Chess’, ‘Reubs’ and Elijah eventually as well.
“They’re all talented players and it’s a fun time to be part of the football club.”

General Manager Football Gavin Bell was delighted Yeo would remain with the club until the end of 2027.
“Elliot has been a wonderful contributor to our club over the course of 176 matches so far and his passion for West Coast is undeniable,” Bell said.
