An under-construction Ocean Reef shopping centre will seek approval from State planners to alter its design to fit a larger tavern.
Urbis on behalf of the owners Saracen Properties have lodged amendments to the shopping centre on Marina Boulevard named Sunset Plaza.
Changes include a reduction of five parking bays, reduction of the childcare area and more tavern space to include a sports bar area, back of house service area and more outdoor space.
The new documents reveal a reconfiguration of the childcare area’s pick-up and drop-off areas to be safer for attendees.
“The inclusion of dedicated outdoor, family and sports bar areas offer a recreation opportunity for all members of the Ocean Reef and broader community, with additional facilities (increased back of house and WC facilities) to appropriately service the tenancy,” the new application said.
“There is no increase in the public licence areas and the patron numbers remain unchanged.”
The site is between Ocean Reef Primary School and Ocean Reef Retirement Country Club. The old shopping centre has been demolished.
Plans include an IGA and liquor store, gym, fuel station, medical centre and Chicken Treat fast-food outlet.
The new plans will be voted on by a Joint Development Assessment Panel at a later date.
