He’d been gone for some time, but now Gex is finally returning. After being announced nearly a year ago, the Gex Trilogy just got a brand-spanking-new trailer during this morning’s Limited Run Games showcase, and it looks exactly and precisely as you remember it.
Running on LRG’s fancy “Carbon Engine,” this will be the game as it was originally played, running on modern platforms including PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Switch and PC. It’ll include the original 2D platformer, Gex, released in 1995, the 3D sequel from 1998, Gex: Enter the Gecko, and 1999’s Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko.
If you missed these games back when they had their moment, Gex was a Crystal Dynamics (of modern Tomb Raider fame) production which featured a wise-cracking gecko going on TV-themed adventures and starred Dana Gould (or Danny John-Jules depending on your region) in the 3D iterations which were packed full of one-liners and very 90s humour. The games pulled fairly decent critical reviews when they originally released, but were absolutely cult hits in their own right.
This Gektakular package doesn’t yet have a release date, but pre-orders will supposedly kick off in the later portion of this year.
Take a look at the new trailer for Gex Trilogy below:
The Gex Trilogy’s official description reads, “Gex Trilogy is the definitive edition of the classic platforming series with Gexcessive attitude, complete with Gextras like rewind and save anywhere. Relive Gex’s snark-laced adventures through the warped lens of twentieth-century pop culture and use your Gexterity to survive an onslaught of television-themed challenges.”
