Millions brace for rain and polar blasts as parts of the country shiver through cold snap

Millions of Aussies are bracing for more rain and icy polar blasts this weekend as most of the country continues to shiver through the latest cold snap.

Sydney and Brisbane are both in for wet weather while temperatures will also plummet across the east.

Canberra is set for lows of 0C, with tops of 13C.

Sydneysiders are set for a minimum of 8C on Saturday morning, with tops of 17C.

Melbourne is set for a minimum of 2C, and a top of 15C, on Sunday.

On Friday, the country shivered through the winter solstice with less than 10 hours of sunlight expected.
