Horse racing tips are no longer being broadcast daily on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, bringing to an end a tradition which has lasted for almost half a century.
For 47 years the tips have been read out at the end of each sports bulletin at 6.30am, 7.30am and 8.30am from Monday to Saturday, but now they will be reserved for only the highest-profile races.
The tips were not read out on Monday, with the announcement made live on air by the Today presenter Amol Rajan, who said: “There are no racing tips today because we have decided to break the tradition and reserve the tips for the biggest days on the racing calendar.”
The BBC will still give tips for big-ticket meetings such as Gold Cup day at Cheltenham
