The group was discovered by the uncle of the teenager, who peered through the window of the home after becoming concerned about a lack of movement from inside.

After smashing open a window to gain access to the home the uncle, who lives in a neighbouring unit, found the four bodies and called police.

Detective Inspector Dean Thomas said police were unsure how the group died and were looking at all possibilities, including a drug overdose.

“We think that may be the case,” he said.

“We’ve gotta keep an open mind about this. It’s unusual that we find four people deceased in the one property potentially from a drug overdose.

“Until we can confirm that’s the case, it could be anything.”

Thomas said all four people, who were yet to be formally identified, were found in the loungeroom of the home.

He said it appeared as though the group had been sitting down, but that some were found dead on the floor.

Police found several items found inside the home that Thomas said “may be drug paraphernalia” however they needed to be examined.

There were some injuries on the bodies however Thomas would not confirm who was injured nor the nature of the injuries.

“We don’t believe that there’s been any form of violence in the place,” he said.

One of the victims is believed to be a resident of the Broadmeadows home and the rest were visiting.

The relationships between the four people are unclear.

“We’re trying to piece together the connections and what in actual fact they were doing at the address,” Thomas said.

At least three of the four people were known to police, including the 17-year-old boy.

Thomas said the scene was “unpleasant” and that it would have been confronting for the boy’s uncle to make the discovery.

“For the person to have found them there, very, very confronting and very traumatic for that person and of course the families of the deceased … they’ll want answers as to what has occurred,” he said.

Cory spoke to 7NEWS about finding the body of his nephew, who is understood to be a father to a daughter less than 12 months old.

“I’ve come home to find him gone,” he said.

“He was a kid, 17 years old.”

It could take anywhere from several days to months for post-mortem examinations to be conducted, Thomas said.

He appealed to anyone who may know anything about what happened to come forward.
