ALDI confirms major change to mince packs, effective immediately

ALDI supermarket has confirmed a new major change to the meat aisle in selected stores.

The retail giant has revealed that even more of its beef mince buys are now available in plastic bags, instead of plastic trays.

In June last year, ALDI confirmed that its Jindurra Station 2-Star Beef Mince would be available in the bags, which uses 70 per cent less plastic than traditional packaging.

Now the supermarket is trialling its popular Jindurra Station Grass Fed 4-Star Beef Mince in the environmentally-sound bags as well.

An ALDI spokesperson has told 7NEWS.com.au that the move is part of the supermarket’s commitment to finding more environmentally friendly packaging options.

“ALDI is continuing to remove and reduce plastic across our stores, and are always looking for ways to trial new packaging innovations across our range to help achieve our goal of reducing plastic packaging by 25 per cent by 2025,” the spokesperson said.

At present, the new packs are available in Queensland and haven’t been rolled out nationally at this stage.

The packs were spotted by a Queensland ALDI customer, who applauded the move.

“I have seen the two-star mince packs in bags for a while – but was excited to see the higher quality mince in the same packaging,” the shopper told 7NEWS.com.au.

“Sometimes the bags are a little tricky to use, like if you don’t want to use all the meat in one go. But I think it’s a great move, using less plastic is always a win.”
