“Our kids are obsessed with the game of football:” Abilene High continues offseason work

ABILENE, Texas (BCH Sports) – Programs across the state of Texas are working hard this offseason.

The Abilene High Eagles are one of those putting in the work, and a lot is expected from the 2024 version of the Warbirds.

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine ranks them eighth in the state in Class 5A Div. I in the preseason. Mike Fullen’s team is coming off a district title and a trip to the regional finals in 2023.

To do, at least, that again, the players need to buy in during the offseason.

Strength and conditioning coach Conlan Aguirre says that’s exactly what they are doing.

Aguirre said, “Our young guys have really stepped in, we’re kind of at a point in our program where our kids are obsessed with the game of football and so anything that we ask them to do they’ll do it and take it to another level and it’s been very pleasing to see those guys step into roles that they’re going to have to play big into in the fall.”

The Eagles continue to prepare this summer. All of the work will be on display when the Eagles open the 2024 season against San Angelo Central on August 30.
