The family of Tia Cameron have erupted in emotion at a brief court hearing for the Brisbane City Council bus driver charged over her death.
Lindsay Francis Selby’s case was mentioned in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday, with several members of Cameron’s family attending the proceedings.
Police allege Selby was driving the bus along Edward Street on March 8 when it left the road and struck Cameron, before crashing into the Anzac Square Arcade building about 5pm.
Cameron’s family filled the small courtroom and were forced to stand for the proceedings.
The case was quickly adjourned, and one of her loved ones said, “get f—-d”, while another said, “we have to be dragged through this all over again? It’s bullshit”.
Some of the group also swore at and insulted the 70-year-old Selby, calling him a homosexual slur.
“You killed our family,” a person said.
Magistrate Ross Mack told the group, “Don’t try it, I’ve given you the courtesy of letting you in, just let it run its course”, and asked whether security needed to be brought in.
Pedestrians and other commuters in the peak-hour traffic witnessed the crash, which also caused minor injuries to four passengers on the bus.
