It’s game, set, match as eight-time Grand Slam winner Ken Rosewall lists the Kirra penthouse he has held for 45 years.

The Aussie tennis legend was an original investor in the aptly named Centre Court six-storey building in 1978, and has held the top-floor apartment as a family holiday home ever since.

Rosewall owned the 236 sqm unit with his late beloved wife, Wilma, but is serving it up to the market after moving to Brisbane to be closer to his son.

“It’s been a wonderful place to holiday with the family over the decades,” he said.

“We’ve lived in the apartment for the past few years, after moving up from Sydney but it’s time to hand it on.

“I’ve loved waking up and seeing the sun rise over Kirra, it’s just magical in the morning.”

Rosewall developed the building in the 1970s with fellow tennis players and industry figures. “I’m sure the next owner will love it as much as I have,” he said.

The penthouse will go under the hammer in July

The winner of 147 singles titles across his 25-year career including four Australian Opens, Rosewall is considered one of the greatest Australian tennis players of all time.

The three-bedroom, two-bathroom unit at 30/32-34 Musgrave Street, Coolangatta is marketed by Andrew Rouse and Mark Stafford from Ray White Burleigh Group.

“Location, location with this one,” Mr Rouse said.

“Centre Court was one of the first midrises at Kirra, and it’s beachfront so can’t be built out.

“The bathrooms and laundry are original, but the view over Kirra is truly timeless.

Mr Rouse said the southern Gold Coast was attracting huge interest from investors, and was hallmarked by a lack of supply.

“Ken’s unit really is a blank canvas — it would suit a young family as much as downsizers and could easily undergo a full renovation for someone who’s looking to capitalise on their investment.”

The property goes under the hammer on July 19.
