Chad Schofield will look for mid-winter paydays in Australia and Singapore this weekend with a view to the future.

Schofield will link with McKell Cup favourite Golden Path at Rosehill on Saturday before jumping on a plane to Singapore to attempt to win a second consecutive Stewards’ Cup on Lightning Strike for trainer Ted Fitzsimmons on Sunday.

“It was good to get the call to go back up to Singapore and ride Lightning Strike. He should be a good chance stepping up to the mile, and in the Singapore Derby in a couple of weeks,” Schofield said.

“I won this race on Golden Monkey last year, and this bloke looks like a stayer that is going to be in the finish on Sunday.

“Hopefully, I will go up there after a good day on Saturday. Golden Path is certainly a horse that is going to be hard to beat in some of these feature staying races in the next month now he is out to 2000m. They are a couple of good rides to have at this time of the year.”

Schofield has had success riding for the Mick Price and Michael Kent jnr stable since they have had a Sydney base and would like to build on it.

“I rode for Mick as an apprentice in Melbourne and won a Newmarket for him on Lankan Rupee. We have always had a good association,” Schofield said.

“With him and [Kent] getting a Sydney base it would be a good partnership to keep going because they have a stable full of good horses.”

Schofield won the Gosford Cup on Hezashocka for the stable last month, the same day he first got on Golden Path when he finished out of the placings in The Coast.
