While the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner is yet to list a cause of death, the band’s manager Howie Hubberman said the singer died of an accidental overdose.

“Seth Binzer, after struggling with addiction and Crazy Town’s rapid success with (the song) Butterfly, never was able to reach out on a more successful level to deal with his addictions,” Hubberman told People.

“We all tried, but ultimately we all failed, or Shifty would still be here.”

Hubberman said his “friend” wanted to escape substance abuse and improve his health but “unfortunately no one had the exact tools to do this, myself included”.

The singer’s publicist Kelly Springer described her client as a “courageous fighter”.

“So full of talent, light, compassion, love and grace,” she said.

“He will be missed by so many. He was one of those souls who was magnetic. We will miss you Seth.

“We are heartbroken. Thank you for your talents and contributions to our music industry. We were all blessed to have had you.”

Rap-rock band Crazy Town found success with their track Butterfly, which featured on their debut album, The Gift Of Game.

The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2001 and reached the top 10 in several international markets, including Australia.

Crazy Town failed to replicate that success moving forward and the band endured several challenges including a turnover in band members and Shellshock’s substance challenges.

During a band hiatus, Shellshock pursued a solo career and later appeared on reality shows Celebrity Rehab and Sober House.

The musician is survived by his three children Halo, Gage and Phoenix.
