Marko reveals root of Horner-Jos Verstappen tension

Must read

Red Bull advisor Dr Helmut Marko waded into the conflict between Christian Horner and Jos Verstappen.

The father of star driver Max instigated the latest sparing match between the pair, who have endured a tumultuous relationship of late.

Due to take part in the Red Bull Legend’s Parade, Jos claimed Horner had moved to block his involvement, something the Briton denied – but the situation has since developed further.

Along with keeping the door ajar for his son to leave Red Bull, despite Max insisting he will remain with the team for 2025, Jos has since made serious accusations of foul play with regards to the 2012 Red Bull RB8 he was due to drive in the event at the Austrian Grand Prix.

Max feels the mess could have been avoided, as does Marko, who believes it is “unnecessary” and childish.

“I would describe it as we call it in German: ‘kindergarten’. Unnecessary, and I am a little bit unhappy that it came to the public,” the 81-year-old told Viaplay, before shedding further light on the dynamics at Red Bull between Horner and Verstappen Sr.

“First of all, Jos is not an easy character and Christian doesn’t understand or accept that Jos is Jos.

“He won’t change him and he does what he believes is right. If it’s right or not, it’s another question.”
