“I went through a lot of its runs and it’s put up some really big runs off the fence in the 2100 so just decided on him.

“I realised in the ownership group as well that there were friends of friends…and obviously he has a good trainer, as well as a good driver in Pete McMullen, so I locked him in on the horse.

“It all tied in really well in the end.”

Entrants in The Hayden are restricted to 3 and 4YO QBRED pacers that must be Queensland trained and driven.

The race will once again offer a base prize pool of $100,000, with proceeds raised from the slot auction meaning it will run for $207,000 in 2024.

The winner will also qualify for a spot in the $2.1 million TAB Eureka to be held at Menangle on Saturday, September 7.

Burchill said the chance to secure a golden ticket into the world’s richest harness race, along with raising money for Shoreline, was too good an opportunity to pass up.

“I think it’s a brilliant idea – the Eureka will have representatives from all parts of the country, and Queensland will obviously send through a QBRED runner,” he said.
