Owens given time off Bears camp to watch Biles at the Olympics

The Chicago Bears will allow safety Jonathan Owens time off training camp to allow him to see his wife, Simone Biles, compete at the Paris Olympics.

The gymnastics legend is heading to her third Games after securing her place on Team USA over the weekend.

Owens was on hand to support his wife, the most decorated gymnast in history, as she came through US trials in Minneapolis.

‘We’re going to Paris,’ Owens wrote on social media after watching Biles secure her place in Paris. And the gymnast revealed he will be granted the chance to see her up close.

‘The Bears are actually granting him a couple days off from training camp, so he’ll be there, yes,’ Biles said via USA Today. ‘For just a short little time.’

This will be Owens’ first chance to see Biles chase Olympic gold in person. They were not a couple when she made her debut at Rio 2016.

Five years on, the delayed Tokyo Olympics were held behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Biles has been forced to defend Owens time and again in the lead-up to her Olympic return this summer. The NFL star irked her fans by claiming he didn’t know she was before they dated – and that he was the catch.

On Sunday, he said he was ‘so proud’ after leaping to his feet and cheering for Biles at the Target Center in Minneapolis.

The 27-year-old posted an all-around score of 117.225, putting her ahead of Sunisa Lee and Jordan Chiles, who finished second and third, respectively.
