Tourists Evacuated to Football Stadium After ‘Out of Control’ Wildfire in Kos

Thousands of tourists were evacuated from hotels and resorts on the Greek island of Kos after a wildfire rapidly spread on Monday, July 1.

The wildfire broke out to the east of the town of Antimachia and was declared out of control as strong winds spread it toward the popular tourist resort of Kardamaina.

Approximately 10,000 tourists and residents were evacuated to schools, sports stadiums and hotels in the towns of Antimachia, Mastichari, and Marmari, Ekathimerini reported.

Footage filmed by X user @undertaker999 showed evacuated holidaymakers and residents at a football stadium near the island’s airport.
