SEN SA’s Mark Bickley, Michelangelo Rucci and Kym Dillon have discussed a quartet of players being linked to Adelaide and Port Adelaide.
Melbourne’s Harrison Petty continues to be linked with the Crows, Collingwood remains interested in Mark Keane and GWS’ Harry Perryman is a reported target for the Power.
The question was also asked: Should the Crows go after Essendon’s Dylan Shiel?

Should the Crows go after him again?
Rucci: “I keep hearing it’s not going to happen.”
Dillon: “I keep hearing it’s going to happen, but it won’t be at the same offer as before.
“Then it’s up to Melbourne, but at least they’ll be getting something.”
Rucci: “I’m not sure how Crows fans feel about that at the moment.”
Dillon: “Don’t go to the bank with it.”
Would Bickley recruit him and what would he pay?
Bickley: “I think Petty is a really good AFL defender. I would think that he’s an average forward.
“Where are your needs if you’re Adelaide? With Butts, Murray, Keane, etc, I don’t think there’s a desperate need for a 6ft4 defender.
“Having said that, if you are going to lose some of those other defenders (like Keane) then that may change. On what we know Keane will most likely stay at Adelaide.
“You have to decide whether you have a need and if you have a need then you go and decide what the price is. If the price last year was a first-round pick and something else extra thrown in…
“The dilemma that Adelaide has is their first-round pick is going to be good, Pick 5 or 6, and I don’t think you’re giving up that for Harrison Petty.”

On Collingwood’s interest in the former Magpie
Rucci: “They just signed him (in 2023), Adelaide.”
Dillon: “He’s only played 24 games, he has so much improvement left in him.
“I hope he stays in Adelaide. You can’t imagine that his heart is in Melbourne although it was the first Australian city he lived in.
“You’d like to think they (the Crows) could make him feel at home here (in Adelaide).”

Dillon suggested that the Crows should go after him. Below is Bickley’s response.
Bickley: “If you’re going to recruit mature-age players they’ve got to have a five-year runway.
“Because I think that’s still probably what Adelaide needs to challenge and get into the top four.
“If you’re going to win one you want to have a little bit of time to try and win more than one.
“I just feel like recruiting a 31-year-old to me doesn’t make much sense.”
Dillon: “I think it’s different. I don’t necessarily subscribe to the five years.
“I just think if he goes into the midfield, a player like that with some genuine leg speed – I know he can spray the footy a bit. Adelaide can turn things around fairly quickly, Luke Nankervis has come on in leaps and bounds, Josh Worrell could end up being one of the best defenders in the caper and if Riley Thilthorpe’s body can stand up I think things can turn around fairly quickly.
“That’s why I think you aim for the stars, you get someone that has got a touch of class and bit of explosive power through the midfield. He’s a fit bloke, he’s looked after himself. I know he gets a lot of niggling injuries.”
Bickley: “Why hasn’t he been playing at Essendon?”
Rucci: “He’s been injured!”
Bickley: “Is not that a red flag?”
Dillon: “I know but you might get him really cheap. You’d take some of the salary and they’d be happy to offload him.
“I just think sometimes you’ve got to look outside the box and do things a little bitt differently and not be so structured.”
Bickley: “I just think that Adelaide should look at some of the moves that Hawthorn have made.
“There are players out there that aren’t quite getting the opportunities for their clubs for different reasons.
“Massimo D’Ambrosio is a great example of someone who wasn’t getting the love at Essendon and he goes to Hawthorn and becomes the third best ranked wingman in the competition, and he’s 23 years of age.
“I think you have to look at diamonds like that.”
Harry Perryman
On Hawthorn’s interest in the Giant.
Dillon: “This surprised me. Explain what Hawthorn did…”
Rucci: “They sent a delegation of Sam Mitchell, Jarryd Roughead and a third person. They went to Sydney last week.”
Dillon: “So you’d think they would be the frontrunners, but no, it’s Port Adelaide apparently.”
Rucci: “Port must have a serious offer on the table.
“We know Port’s got a pretty weak draft hand. They’re going to have put something on the table.
“Do they already have a plan to move some players out? They’re going to have to put a really serious name on the table if they want draft picks or a trade.”
On Port actually being the frontrunners and a reported $800,000 offer.
Bickley: “He’s not going to be the difference between winning a flag and not winning a flag.
“I don’t think he’s going to be a star player. He continues to add depth and be a solid player.
“I haven’t seen enough of Perryman to have an absolute view of where he sits, but he’s probably 12 to 22 in your team, he’s not 1 to 12 in Port Adelaide’s team.
“If it was my money I wouldn’t be spending that much.
“I don’t think that’s going to be the make or break decision for Port Adelaide.”
