THE Konepoti Cricket Club is geared up for the Port Moresby Cricket Association’s (POMCA) competition following the announcement of a new sponsor.
Club president Puana Agi said they received support from Huon Logistics in the form of new uniforms and affiliation fees.
Matches will be staged at the Bisini cricket grounds.
“The Konepoti club was re-established in 2019 and this is our fifth year competing in POMCA,” Agi said. “It has been hard getting sponsors but we are grateful to Huon Logistics who have come on board.
“This year we will be fielding three teams in the competition consisting of a men’s A-Grade, women’s and the Under-19 men’s.”
Agi said the team from Abau had been getting better each season since their re-establishment.
“We’ve been growing strength to strength each year since 2019, our best performance was in 2022 where we finished third,” he said.
“We dropped last year however this season our goal is to try and make it into the finals and hopefully win a final.”
Meanwhile, Agi said they would like to see the club grow each year with interest starting to build up in Abau.
“We had one of our players recently take part in the 2024 Isuzu T20 Smash and that will encourage more people in Abau to play.”
