ABC News Breakfast star quits

Must read

An ABC News Breakfast star has quit the show and moved on to another branch of the network.

Supervising producer Lucy Carter ‘bid farewell’ to her team this week, with anchor Michael Rowland posting the announcement to his Instagram on Friday morning.

The long-time ABC employee will now be transitioning to ABC Verify as a fact checker after working at the network for 16 years.

Michael, 55, shared an image alongside the announcement which saw Lucy sitting on the ABC News couch front and centre.

She was all smiles as Michael and co-host Emma Rebellato sat to her right, while executive producer Tyson Shine and Charles Brice were on her left.

‘Sad day for us at News Breakfast as we bid farewell to our superb Supervising Producer Lucy Carter,’ Michael wrote in his post.

‘Lucy possesses one of the sharpest editorial minds I know, is a daily source of great ideas for the show, and has been an incredible mentor to our younger team members.

‘Lucy is heading off to head ABC Verify, and will play a key role in sorting through what’s real and what’s not in this age of disinformation. Go well, Lucy!’

The accomplished reporter started with ABC in 2008 as a newsreader at Triple J, holding positions for ABC News and ABC Radio Current Affairs over the years.

She also worked on 7:30 and Four Corners with a Walkley, Quill and Logie award under her belt for her work as an investigative journalist.

Lucy’s exit from ABC News comes weeks after the show decided to use a ‘revolving door’ of presenters on their flagship breakfast program in April.

The morning show, regularly hosted by Michael and Lisa Millar, went through multiple changes in four days one week, with presenters constantly swapping roles.

One viewer mocked the changes by posting a gif of a group of men playing a game of musical chairs on industry blog Media Spy.

Another viewer listed the changes which included presenter Emma hosting the show with Stephanie Ferrier on that Monday, and Lisa, 55, on the Tuesday.

Emma later swapped with presenter Stephanie that week to do the weather report on the Wednesday, after she performed the same gig on the Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Charles Brice replaced regular sports presenter Tony Armstrong on Monday and Tuesday, before Tom Maddocks took over for Wednesday’s show.

The same eagle-eyed viewer noted that Emma was scheduled to present the weather on Thursday and Friday that same week.
