Daisy Edgar-Jones has finally put rampant rumours of a ‘secret romance’ with Paul Mescal to rest.
In 2022, the Normal People co-stars found themselves at the centre of attention when a photo emerged from the Met Gala
The pair were separately on the red carpet at the same time when Mescal was snapped gazing at Edgar-Jones from a distance while attending the event with his then-girlfriend, singer Phoebe Bridgers, who is seen smiling at Mescal.
It sparked speculation Mescal secretly held a flame for his former co-star.

However, Edgar-Jones has now set the record straight on the events depicted in the photo.
The Where the Crawdads Sing star told WhoWhatWear the speculation surrounding the image was “wild.”

“I was having kind of an out-of-body experience with the Met Gala,” the actress explained, “so Paul had said like, ‘Come and meet me and we could do it together.'”
Edgar-Jones said Mescal’s offer was “really cool” as they were “such good friends,” though their arrival didn’t go according to plan.
Mescal and Bridgers, who split in late 2022, were “really late,” which meant Edgar-Jones might have had to do the red carpet by herself at first.
“Finally, Paul came with Phoebs and we were waiting and did the carpet together,” she continued.
“And honestly, he’s my pal, so he was probably just being like, ‘There she is!'”

At the time the actress hadn’t done much in-person press due to COVID, so she was nervous about the red carpet.
“I had been in COVID for most of the time, doing press on Zoom. This was one of the few times I’d actually been in person.”
“It was still early days, so I didn’t know how to pose on a red carpet,” Edgar-Jones shared.
“So, what I think is most tragic about this is the deep leg cross that I kind of committed to in every photo.”
What were the Twisters star’s final thoughts? Edgar-Jones said all the attention that followed the photo was over the top “considering the innocence behind it.”
