Golf returns at the 2024 Olympics this summer for its third straight year at the Games.

The sport was reintroduced to the iconic event in 2016 following a 112-year absence and it has now become a regular inclusion.

In Rio eight years ago, Team GB’s Justin Rose won gold before Xander Schauffele came out on top for the USA in Tokyo.

Golf at Paris 2024: Dates and schedule 

Golf at the Olympics will begin on Thursday, August 1 at Le Golf National near Versailles.

That is when the men’s event gets underway with play continuing for four rounds until the final round on Sunday, August 4. 

The women’s event then gets started on Wednesday, August 7 and comes to a close four days later on Saturday, August 10. 

It is after each final round that the gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded. 

Golf at Paris 2024: Format 

The golf format at the Olympics is the usual for a tournament – stroke play. 

It consists of counting the number of strokes it takes each player to complete 18 holes. 

There will be four rounds of action and whichever player has the lowest overall score will win gold.

Golf at Paris 2024: Field and notable players 

There will be 120 athletes playing at the Olympics in total with 60 competing in the men’s event and 60 in the women’s. 

37 different countries will be represented during the Games this summer. 

The USA have the most competitors across both genders with seven while other nations range from one to five.

Scheffler will be eyeing a gold medal as he headlines a men’s field that will also include Rory McIlroy, former winner Schauffele, Ludvig Aberg, Viktor Hovland and Jon Rahm

Wyndham Clark, Collin Morikawa, Shane Lowry and Hideki Matsuyama are among the other stars set to feature. 

Tommy Fleetwood and Matt Fitzpatrick will be representing Team GB

In the women’s event, World No.1 Nelly Korda will want a medal while Lilia Vu and Ko Jin-young will challenge her for the gold. 

Charley Hull will be Team GB’s best hope for glory while Georgia Hall will also be in France.
