Angel Reese Addresses Foul On Caitlin Clark: ‘It Was A Basketball Play’ | BIN: Black Information Network

WNBA rookie Angel Reese has addressed her flagrant foul on fellow basketball star Caitlin Clark during the Chicago Sky’s matchup against the Indiana Fever.

On Sunday (June 16), the Indiana Fever beat the Chicago Sky 91-83 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Reese, a Sky rookie, fouled the Fever’s Clark during the third quarter of the game. As Clark drove to the rim, Reese’s arm hit the back of her fellow rookie’s head, sending her to the ground.

The foul was upgraded to a Flagrant 1 for “unnecessary” contact following an official review of the play.

Reese addressed the incident in post-game press.

“It was a basketball play,” Reese said, per The Athletic’s Nicole Auerbach. “I can’t control the refs. They affected the game obviously a lot today. I’m always going for the ball. Y’all are going to play that clip 20 times before Monday.”

Clark also fielded questions about her thoughts on the foul following the game.

“What’s going through my mind is, ‘I need to make these two free throws,'” Clark told reporters. “That’s all I’m thinking about. Just a part of basketball. It is what it is. Just trying to make a play on the ball and get the block. It happens.”

The incident comes after Reese’s teammate Chennedy Charter’s hard foul on Clark earlier this month. The next matchup against the Sky and Fever is set for June 23 at Wintrust Arena in Chicago.
