It’s most likely the result of nearly 60,000 pass yards and 475 touchdown passes.
Even at 40 years old, and coming off an Achilles tear, New York Jets‘ quarterback Aaron Rodgers has earned Top 10 status in the annual ESPN-compiled player rankings by position. Spearheaded by writer Jeremy Fowler, ESPN “surveyed league executives, coaches and scouts,” and the results show that, when healthy, Rodgers is still viewed as one of the better QB options in the NFL.
When reviewing the rankings, it’s important to recognize that “this is not a five-year projection or a career achievement award” and “the objective is to identify the best players right now for 2024.”
Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP, landed at No. 8 overall in between No. 7 CJ Stroud (Texans) and No. 9 Jared Goff (Lions). Unsurprisingly, Kansas City Chiefs‘ superstar Patrick Mahomes earned the No. 1 overall ranking with Joe Burrow (Bengals) and Josh Allen (Bills) in second and third, respectively.
Rodgers ranked No. 4 overall heading into the 2023 season. This year, he was left off multiple ballots but still managed to achieve Top 10 status.
” … Rodgers, the oldest active quarterback in the NFL, is set to become the sixth in history to start 10-plus games at age 40 or older, joining Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Brett Favre, Warren Moon and Vinny Testaverde.
No matter. Still elite. … The Jets can take solace in Rodgers’ ability to protect the football. He has the lowest interception rate (1.4%) in NFL history … While Rodgers appeared on fewer than 60% of the ballots, nearly half of those ballots placed Rodgers in the top five. Quarterback purists still love him. … .”
Although it’s been a few years, Rodgers enjoyed a masterful three-year run with current Jets’ offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett in Green Bay. The Packers averaged 13 wins per season while Rodgers won two MVP awards and passed for 111 touchdowns to only 13 interceptions.
