The Block A is the most recognizable symbol of the University of Arizona, whether it be for athletics specifically or the school in general. It’s been on the side of the football helmets for more than 30 years, no matter if the shell was red, white, blue or (gasp!) copper.
But this fall the Wildcats will mix things up a bit, throwing in an alternate helmet that won’t feature that synonymous logo.
The white helmet features a ‘Cats’ in red script on both sides, and also features red face chrome masks after previously being blue. There are still red and blue stripes going from the front to the back over the top of the helmet.
No announcement has been made on which game or games the UA will don the new lids. They could make their debut in the season opener Aug. 31 against New Mexico, maybe for the first Big 12 home game Oct. 5 against Texas Tech or possibly the Homecoming against Colorado on Oct. 19.
