Augusta Athletics Mourns the Passing of Former Basketball and Soccer Coach Lowell Barnhart

AUGUSTA, GA – Augusta Athletics mourns the loss of former women’s basketball and men’s soccer head coach Lowell Barnhart. Barnhart passed away on Friday, June 28, at the age of 91.     

A native of Syracuse, Indiana, Barnhardt served in the U.S. Army before signing with the Dodgers farm system in 1955. Barnhardt won the 1960 Silver Glove Award during his stint with the Dodgers. Prior to his time with Augusta, he was the Athletic Director at Curtis Baptist High School.

From 1986 to 1999, Barnhart served as the head women’s basketball coach at Augusta College. He was named PBC Coach of the Year in 1992 after leading the team to a 23-6 overall record and capturing the PBC Atlantic Conference Regular Season Title and PBC Tournament Title. He again received the PBC Coach of the Year honor in 1995, leading the Jaguars to another regular season title. Fourteen women’s basketball players were named all-conference during his tenure. Barnhart was inducted into the Kosciusko County Basketball Hall of Fame, Class of 2011. He also acted as the head men’s golf coach at Augusta College from 1985 to 1995.
