Aussie cricket champion shares baby joy days before World Cup

Must read

Australian cricket champion Travis Head and wife Jess have announced they are expecting their second child.

The couple became parents when daughter Milla was born in September 2022.

Now, just days out from the Aussies’ T20 World Cup opener, the Heads have revealed another addition is on the way.

“Milla’s best friend loading,” they wrote.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be growing our beautiful, happy family in November.

“What’s a little more chaos?”

The pair married in April 2023 and enjoyed a honeymoon before a busy year that saw Head star in the World Test Championship final, retain the Ashes and lead Australia to victory in the ODI World Cup final.

Head told 7NEWS.com.au last month he had never gone so long without training before that rare holiday with Jess.

“We’d been together for eight or nine years, we’d been on one holiday before then. I’d been pretty much cricket, cricket, cricket. Whatever travel we got was around cricket,” Head tells 7NEWS.com.au.

“We felt like it was very important to spend that time to do it right, to have a trip and have a great time together and not worry about it.

“The flip side is then you put your working hat on and it’s your job and you want to perform and it’s the biggest game that you’ve worked two years for.

“I’m a pretty relaxed character but it was definitely out of my comfort zone to do something like that for that amount of time. But I wouldn’t change it for the world.

“Whether I got runs or didn’t get runs it was hugely important to spend that time. We’ve got some great photos of us and Milla … that’s what makes it so special to then go in and perform the way I did.”

The impressive innings that followed his breaks didn’t go unnoticed by skipper Pat Cummins.

“It means Jess has got the upper hand now for when it comes around again that she can get a six or seven-week trip to Europe before a series,” Head says.

“Pat always jokes about it, he jokes all the time about where I’m going next. Because it worked for that Test and the World Cup.

“Jess has got the upper hand on that one, she can maybe talk them into a few more trips before some big games.”

Head will now hope to follow his latest family milestone with more runs in the T20 World Cup in the West Indies.

Australia will hold all five major ICC trophies if they can win the tournament

Beyond the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup titles in men’s cricket, the Aussie women won the T20 World Cup last year to go with the ODI World Cup title secured in 2022.

Australia’s players aren’t as interested in talking about legacies with the men having largely put the discussion to the side after last year’s Ashes.

But they are well aware of what is at stake in a tournament that also looms as David Warner’s last in international cricket.

“That discussion comes post these tournaments,” Head said last week.

“It’s not something we talk about. Looking back at the ODI World Cup, sights were on the next game.

“It wasn’t until we won it everyone was like wow, we’ve done something pretty special.

“The make up is there (to win it). Let’s see where we get to. It would be a huge achievement if we’re able to do it.”
